As of April 2026, IDP raised the standard IELTS fee in India to Rs 19,000, for both Academic and General Training, and for both computer-delivered and paper tests. The fee is the same in every city. That is the number on the brochure. It is not the number that hurts.
The number that hurts: a second full attempt
IELTS gives no loyalty discount and no retake discount. If your band comes in below what you needed, your options for a fresh full score start at another Rs 19,000. So a student who needs two attempts pays roughly Rs 38,000 in test fees alone, before coaching, and before the cost that is often largest of all: the weeks or months your admission or visa timeline slips while you wait for a new slot and a new result.

The cheaper routes most people miss
One Skill Retake (OSR): when only one section let you down
If three of your four sections were fine and one dragged your overall band down, you may not need to sit the whole test again. IELTS One Skill Retake lets you re-sit a single module, Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking, for approximately Rs 12,650 instead of the full Rs 19,000. Two conditions matter: you must book it within 60 days of your original test, and, crucially, the institution or visa authority you are applying to must accept an OSR result. Enquiry on Results (EOR): when you were sure you did better
If your band is a genuine surprise and you believe a section was mis-marked, you can request a remark through the Enquiry on Results service for around Rs 13,500. The fee is fully refunded if any band goes up. It is a fair bet only when you were close and confident, not a general second chance.
